Everything that I thought I knew about the world has just been turned upside down.

So, basically a proportional air regulator?

    Dear Uncle BumbleFuck,

Pay no attention to the vocal minority. Many of us watch purely for the entertainment of watching the bumblefuckery, the mechanical knowhow is just a happy extra. And those of us of a mechanical mind know better than to take some bumblefucks word as law before researching much less attempting to utilize a thing.

    Signed, fellow BumbleFuck.

PS: keep your slick in a slice 😉

PSS: Im a man, but I changed, because I had to. Oh well.

I’ve seen a lot of these in older buildings that have a BAS with a DDC front-end but haven’t yet converted the actual pneumatic controls at the end points. For hydronic and air-handlers controls, etc.

still very common in oil and gas, worked with many in many different applications in berta, BC, and saskachatoon. mostly they are the controllers for valve actuators, they could be "dumb" like that one or get much smarter with feedback and such. still 4-20mA input and some range of pressure output.

I'm an instrument technician. I have quite a few of these

Is it kinda current controlled pressure relief? Or reducer?

    I fucking love this shit.

We use something similar in the HVAC world called and I to P converter. Current to Pneumatic. Although ours are much smaller and are based off a pcb with a "confuser". They usually have an LCD screen and a couple of buttons for manual control. It gets used when adding modern day electronic controls to old school pneumatic actuators.

Dr Richard Feynman, Nobel laureate and a well humoured bumblefuck on telling his mother that he problems determining his left from his right. ( a genuine issue for a physicist who needs to determine vitality ) was excoriated by his mother, but Rich she told him, you must have noticed the mole on your left hand? Enough said. I have a similar problem determining my east and west. Till I realised where western Australia was. As a smug druggler I kept this to myself to this day.

That makes perfect sense. If you ever want to see technology invented by the guy who sat next to Jesus in the second grade, check out a nuclear facility.

The coil looks so much like a guitar pickup and there's a magnet there too.. was personally convinced this had to be some kind of motion (air flow) to current/voltage converter. Very odd gizmo. Oh… I love that notebook in the background!! The dong and CNC/Solidworks/Janky/Arduino comments… mad scientist all the way!!
