Testing Nord-Lock washers to understand how they work. Nordlock washers FEEL like they really bite. When you're loosening a bolt with nordlocks they are hard to turn and release with a snap. Surprisingly, it doesn't take more torque to loosen them, it just takes more rotation. The reason (as I found out) is because you need to stretch the bolt to overcome the locking wedges. Nord lock cam angle is higher than the thread pitch. I am a big fan of both Nord Locks and Loctite. I have used both in the steel mills I have workes at and they make a huge difference. They are very expensive, but they are also reusable. Split washers are crap.
I guess Nord-Lock doesn't invent something here they copy Ripplock by Boellhoff who invented it originally. That's why it works, Boellhoeff German Junkers Vibration Test DIN (Deutsche Industrie Norm) 65151 as well German. Greetings from Germany
Before I even watch the vid, I know the nord-lock work. We use them on stuff like perf blades that cannot move while the machine is running otherwise the several thousand dollar blades will crash into the anvil. also on stuff like the bolts that hold the orbit head of saws in place to prevent the blade from crashing into the clamps and whatnot.

I found that using nord lock washers is they tend to bite in when u are losing. Makes them harder to undo/come lose over time
You vibrate it at 12 Hz or 40 Hz… or until it Hertz.

with a fine thread bolt it would work alot better. you get less movement with each revolution.

Spring washers and nordlock washers are to stop vibration loosening nuts and bolts…..nothing to do with torque to undo the nuts and bolts. Your thoughts they should increase the torque to undo is flawed and you just proved it with your experiment.
Hi I had a boom lift let go at the centre coupling we had the Nordic washers tested the out come was the Nordic washer must be set to manufacturers torque if you over tighten it is the same as under tightening
It seems like to me that you should be measuring the integral or AOC of each fastener, not the max amplitudes. That will give you a product of work or energy over time (really over a distance), necessary to tighten and to loose each bolt! You can see it in your trace profiles.

Can you please try this test on a much finer thread ! Secondly could you try on different grade bolts (generally found higher grade bolts resist the outer flats on the washer digging into bolts enough to resist the undoing compared too a lower grade bolt)
