AWwww….the cause of millions of arguments.

You should make a video about torqueing fasteners in general, i.e., when to measure torque, when not to, and the limitations of nominal and measured values. Seems to me people accept a lot of assumptions when they try to figure out the appropriate amount of torque for a fastener.

why did the first test show it took as much torque to remove a bolt as to install? The reason I ask is I just put a head on an engine and had to take it off the same day. The torque to install was ALMOST identical to the torque to remove.

Loctite makes a difference between breakloose and breakaway, what is it?

Rust that baby up and you'll see your spike! I don't think I've ever had to break a "pristine bolt free". Like me, they are all old and crusty as frig!

Wouldn't lubrication allow more of a smooth application of torque? Maybe the bolt wasn't yielding, it just didn't reach the torque amount because of less friction from the lubricant. I could be way off.

I can’t imagine that this wedge theory applies to straight fasteners, only tapered ones, no?

i think you could have a better result and way so much easier with a needle torque wrench….

From my experience, it's always the opposite, but generally I work on mechanical repairs so fasteners have been sitting for years.
