We have a look at a high end Kitchen Aid mixer. I was amazed at the castings and gear train. It's got a BIG DC MOTOR! Lots of great features to poke at on this thing, but as per usual, we don't have to look to hard to find some poor design trade-offs.

You gotta love the human brain, imagine taking your new girlfriend to meet your parents and you can’t remember her name. You know her name, you’ve said it a hundred times, but you can’t think of it for some reason.

My KA is 17 years old and they still sell the circuit board for it. Kitchen Aid mixers are not meant to be disposable. They are highly repairable. So far my only issues are one of the screws that holds the base on is somehow missing and I had to spend too much to get a frigging screw. I probably also need to replace the grease because I do see a little residue leaking. And I don’t think this axle grease. It’s food grade grease because it might come in contact with food.

Another year has passed. My mixer will last forever. It never gets used. My wife doesn’t even know how to turn it on. Fucking thing was a waste of money.

I couldn't believe it was actually strong enough because there isn't a blade or Sharp edge I was kinda impressed 😉💯👍✌️💪🇺🇸🛠️

I know im 6 years late to the party, but i can answer some questions. I worked as a maintenance and automation controls technician at the manufacturer that casted the beaters and hooks for these mixers.
The mixers are painted through a powder coating process. Whether its a form of enamel or plastic i dont know, but i was always told powder coated paint.
As far as the base metal they are all cast aluminum (minus the whisks). And the broached section is formed during the casting using an inserted core with that "j-hook" feature.
Love your vjos and what you do. This Old Tony showed me i can justify having my own machine shop purely for a hobby, and you keep my engineering passion thriving.

The difference between the “professional” model and base model, is the base model has a tilt head whereas the pro model is the lever lift type arrangement.
    Hope this helps ❤
