I clean up the shop and make a steel storage rack. This is a request from a viewer on the best way to learn welding. TAKE A CLASS FROM A JOURNEYMAN AT YOUR LOCAL TRADE SCHOOL! You won't learn the little stuff from a book or even a vid, you won't learn it from a buddy who bought a Miller or Lincoln mig machine. Welding requires you to develop a feel and vision, an instructor will LITERALLY hold your hand, show you how to move your body, show you how to sling steel around and countless other things you will not easily learn on your own. Also, I'll tell you why learning MIG is like putting training wheels on a ten-speed; it's counter productive. LEARN STICK WELDING FIRST!

As a beginner, I am finding it stickin all the goddamn time on striking, what am I doing wrong?
Pipeliners never restart a stick.
You should get an air fed mask rather than breathing in that shit….. Uk welder here ๐ฌ๐ง๐
I took welding and metal working at community college, but I just couldn't get that proficient. Several years later, I was working on cars at a state prison. I quickly picked up not just stick but also mig, as well as becoming pretty good at sheet metal.
So yes, I learned more in prison than I did in community college.
You make a great teacher! ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฅ
Love the roach burns
Great video!! Love the F bombs! I'mm 66 and taking stick welding class at my community college.
I'm only a minute into this, and feel like I'm learning something… I'm not sure WHAT! A different dialect of English? I feel like I understand, but it would be hard to take notes. "I've quit better jobs than this" was pretty plain. I'll probably be quoting some of this for the rest of my life.
I fn hate Canadians
I started with a MIG, simply because my need was for car body repairs where an MMA stick welder is practically useless unless you want to cut your car in half. Never looked back after buying the MIG. Yes, it is easier than stick but so what? Easier is good. I learnt to weld simply because I needed the skill to do a job, not so I could say I learnt the hard way which makes me a better welder.
Why does it seem like you are 5'8 and 6'5 at the same time?
I ain't neva seen no Canadian shape shifter before.
I just came here from watching Essential Craftsman. Not sure I learned anything but I'll be darned if I didn't get a chuckle or two out. I'm ready to pick up a stick and start frying together some scabby metal ๐
What about an underwater welder..?? ๐H2O and so forth… Causing cracks and whatnot…. Um…. Hmmmm… ?? Special welding rods and gas I presume..?? ๐ฌ๐๐
Wholeheartedly agree -I just finished a 60hr training course at my (not so local) trade school 2 x 3hr evenings a week for 10 weeks. Cost 300Euro. Course was beginners MMA (Stick to you yanks). Guy taught me everything including which welder/helmet to buy, rods to use AND where to get the cheapest steel….. Loved it.
