Add a BMS to protect for over discharge/charge. The original charger can easily and cheaply be changed to Lithium.

    Need a Fail Safe BMS.

I would just cram an M18 battery in there that way you can hack a charger together pretty easy

I know this is an older vijayo, and I don't know if'n you've already done this, but I'd love to see if there was a way to put in overdraw protection, and make it so that the old charger could be reconfingered to operate with the new batteries.

    Hey, boss…
I've got an 18v. NiCad battery from a snap on impact tool that shows charged, reads 19v. and a little change when I check it with a meter and when I pulled it apart, the cells all seem fine with a couple volts but when I connect it to the tool, I get nothin. The tool works with another battery and charger is fine. Resistor? Help if you (or anyone) can. Thanks.

AHH!! Watch out everybody when you tear off the metal tabs from the POSITIVE + end of 18650 cells or the nipple end of a battery . Usually they are spot welded on but only the nipple is + and all the naked surface from the opposite or flat end is negative and a very short circuit . Try not to damage any insulation l also found out the hard way .

I had an 18v NiCd Milwaukee. Heavy as all hell and a beast amongst drills. It was very torquey, took a repeated beating, and outlasted all the other drills. Fwd 10 years, the spindle bearings were sloppy as something on the clearance corner for $20 and the batteries were starting to fade. In a final act to heroism, it plunged 7 ft from a ladder hitting my then pergo covered floor and the whole battery mount snapped off… Sad day. But it still outlasted my second longest lived cordless, 14.4 rigid. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ
