Another good fix I learned is to cut a small slot in the end of the shaft and smash a wedge in there with some glue! Might not last forever but it'll get you through the job at hand at least

Dipropylene glycol. Works the same as ethylene glycol but better. But more difficult to source DPG, perfume base. Propylene glycol works as well. But of all the glycols DPG works best at keeping the swell longest.
This absolutely worked on an extremely loose hatchet head on an old wood handle. So loose it was not safe to use. I recalled this video and thought I had nothing to lose by trying it. Soaked it for 24hrs and was shocked to see how well it worked, it is now rock solid. Thanks for the tip.
