Me personaly when i test a drill from a carboot sale I grab the chuck and spin it tring not to break my wrist or peel skin of my palm usually let's you know a good drill from a bad drill as a bad drill will die or start smoking
Second process in troubleshooting after visual would be the wiggle test.

The problem with my brushless makita was the field rattling round the housing, shimed it ,fixed, tool was almost new!
Same model, same problem, EXACT same wear pattern.
Came across your vid searching for an answer to my Makita XDT14z not powering on after I dropped it. I have no power, no trigger lights, no battery indicator lights, etc. Tried multiple fully charged batteries. Any thoughts you can suggest?
