This brilliant invention has been around since Archimedes. It remains a valuable mechanism for mechanical power transmission. We have a look at a workhorse of industry for the past two centuries, the Radicon speed reducer. I'll also have a stab at explaining multi start threads and why they are simply brilliant! ✪► www.etsy.com/ca/listing/464202928/one-rule-to-ruler-them-all-cheeky-jokes ◄✪

I full well admit AVE is significantly more intelligent than I. I always thought you couldn't drive the worm from the gear as well. However, a couple years ago I took apart a damaged vintage Victrola record player, and was surprised to learn they are in fact driven from the gear side. Admittedly low torque, low rpm, and I can't remember anything about the ratio though.
Worms!
worm gear boxes are defiantly neat but they are not horribly durable. I work at a shop that specializes in rebuilding gear boxes and almost every worm gear box we get in has a stripped wheel.
All over the elevator industry! Ny we call it a worm and gear hoist machine.
What about the speed variable version of these… They're black magic
I'm not an engineer in ANY description yet I understood all of this. Testament to how mighty AvE explains concepts.

How much of this stuff do you put back together? Did this little guy get re-assembled?
Lmfao I couldn't stop laughing when you said this is a book. I guess the younguns don't use them like we did with the internet now.
I first learned about multi start threads watching Tubalcain's disection of the bicycle coaster brake. In that case, the multiple threads allow the clutch to rapidly switch between power and brake mode.
interesting I didn't kno about service factor, or that double throated gears were called jus that
Almost every modern wiper motor uses this system, just in case someone wants to take one apart and have a look. 🙂
I was told by a very wise man, don't use foul/dirty words, it just makes you seem unintelligent!
