This is a rare beast. A very expensive and specialized hydraulic actuator. It looks like a regular cylinder but it's hiding an interesting surprise. And not the kind of surprise you got when your Uncle Grandad first asked you to pull his finger.

This is a great video, thanks. I'm in the middle of rebuilding an earlier version of this beast. The Helac people don't have the seal kits (Helac Hydraulic Rotary Actuator Seal Kits Part #: S26079) and won't provide specs. Has anyone here had any luck sourcing these seals outside of the manufacturer? It would be a shame to see this actuator go to the bin just because of old seals. It never saw much work in its 18-year life.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Stauff hydraulic? Damn the are in the same ownership as the place i work in. L u k a d holding
That's one I haven't heard yet, keep your oil slick outta the crick
Probably useless to comment on a 7 year old video, but that's not a helical gear, AV, it's a multi-lead thread, looks to be acme form or similar. I'd guess it's at least 8 or 10 lead from what I can see, so find the pitch (or lead) of a single thread and you'll have the ratio of turns to linear movement. From that and known PSI and area of the piston you should be able to calculate the torque to PSI formula. I love seeing this stuff from AvE, but I didn't realize this video was so old until after I watched it. Keep up the fun!!
You didn't show how to time it.
Incredibly cool.
I love where he got tongue tied briefly, but troopered on.
I usually then revert to somewhat colorfully imaginative names, like the prickrosaurus rex, perckersaur, etc. Eventually the buffer clears and the language starts working again.
Or I've quite the fascinating prehistoric zoo of animated sex toys…
I thought learning new languages got harder as you get older.. but im finding this alt engineer speak easy to follow.. thumb detecting nut f¥€ker.. otherwise called a knockrometer.. never knew there was an integrated thumb detector.. now i know why my thumbs faaarked after 60yrs of covert detection
A tip: these units need to be timed I’ve rebuilt several and yes the set screw is normal
😂😂
NFG?
No Fuckin Good
No Fuckin Go
Non Functioning Gizmo
I'm assuming it is some variant of that which all boils down to does not chooch in AVE English?
Been watch for years. Fuckin champion you are bud.
Remember seeing this for the first time thinking how the hell do you convert linear movement to rotational. With no length added during movement. 😀
God I love industrial equipment. It's so ridiculously overbuilt. That thing looks like it could turn the fricking planet on its axis.
If you put a monster like that into practically any conceivable hobby project, it'll probably never reach a tenth of its actual capacity. In other words, it'll be chooching on a verifiably monumental scale.
If anything in your jury rigged contraption fails, you can be damned sure it will NOT be this thing. And that's the kind of peace of mind that just about brings a tear to my eye.
