Please vote on my instructable! There is a Miller Welder up for grabs that I will do a BOLTR on! http://www.instructables.com/id/Fireproof-Carbon-Foam-From-Pyrolysed-Bread
Science! Experiments! Chemistry! Hack! Superlatives! Hyperbole!
This is an experiment* to see if I could pyrolyse mundane materials into super heat resistant, lightweight and insulating carbon foam.
Short answer: YES. Long answer: YES. Original Idea from this article:

Long term projects here: http://www.Patreon.com/AvE
* experiment in the youtube sense of the word; meaning demonstration.

Would it make a good FOREVER wick ,great video

Kinda like making charcoal. I've seen a video awhile back where a place takes the unusable scraps from a lumber mill. Simply seal them in a metal 55gal drum and set it over a fire pit.

Whenever I see one of your videos, I think of the term 'renaissance man'. Also, why are we not insulating our spacecraft with burnt bread?

What are its acoustic properties? Would it make for good speaker liner?

You mentioned the spit-laced alcoholic drink of the Andes. Not saying you're wrong but I know "chicha" is made much the same way but with maize instead of taro. I think it was made further north by the Aztecs, too. Great vids!

It's the little things you learn from AvE. Now I know if I randonly smell burning toast, it might be a stroke.

Nothing new here , 56 years ago I saw a demonstration of carbon, thin as a head scarf, blowtorch, blasting one side, human hand on the other, it glowed as it disputed the heat, but the man was not burned. For years I have wondered what happened to that wondrous material, even then I could see the uses …heat shielding for re-entry?
