You can make a blinker with a cap, resistor, and NPN (like 2N2222). RadioShack special (I think they still sell parts!?).
Hey man are you sure that the wiring diagram at the end is correct? I wasn't sure so I built one following the diagram and it no workie. So either I wired it wrong (very possible), or your diagram doesn't describe what you actually made. When I adjust the wiring for the capacitor on the first relay, it worked as yours did.

I know you don't make a lot of welding videos, or if you even have access to a tig machine. can you figure out a way to weld brass? i know it can be brazed or soldered, but i mean full melty goodness.
