I have a taper attachment on my lathe, but in the past when working on lathes without such a luxury, I have deliberately offset/dailed out the tail stock to produce the appropriate taper with the part held between centers and being driven by a lathe dog…. you could cut just as an accurate taper thread as a taper attachment doing this on your lathe… ??? LOL WTF Ave!
