We have a look at the most common drill bits, how they work and when to use them. We go through bit selection for large and small holes in wood, plastic, brass, aluminum, bronze, steel and tool steel. We have a look at tungsten carbide and HSS bits.
long term projects here: http://www.Patreon.com/AvE
Lowlights include:
-Poking fun at woodworkers
-split point versus chisel point
-what size pilot to drill
-hole saws and slugging bits
-Drilling Wood, Plastic, Steel, brass, bronze, tool steel and stone

Did I miss something, as I did watch the whole deal. Cobalt?
Drill doctor?
HSS. Dunno what to buy when I cheapy stores, although cobalt is not cheap. Can you spend 4 or 5 hours and put together a spreadsheet-
or whatever-to help in choosing the right bit for the chosen job. If you are pissed at the request, school me and I'll set up the informative algorithm. You are the champ and I am the chump.Oh, the backlog. Focus you feck!
Reamer? I hardly know her!
I am just hooked on your channel so much knowledge thank you
I keep telling myself I should get some big neodymium magnets forgetting how powerful a 1 inch neodimium magnet is
Ave, I have a Bit Brace set my father had. Brace in excellent condition with nice red wooden knob. If you're interested in vintage stuff I could send it your way. ( I'm in NY). If interested I don't want anything for it , but shipping would be good.
Drill doctor fir split tip.
You can Pull steal bits of shite!,
l out of your eye 👁️!!
with a powerful fishing magnet
I've never met a woodworker who wasn't scared of power-tools
Drill doctor will sharpen split points. Takes a little practice, but it makes the back cut perfectly fine.
Most dearest AvE person Sir:
I sure hope you read these comments because I sorely want you to know just how much you have helped me in my search for proper edumacation. I decided to forego finishing school at the local university as soon as I figured out that they forgot that tits are useless on a bull and started trying to convince me of otherwise. The last straw was when they started having those titted bulls doing cabaret shows in mornings down at the local daycare. And I could have probably stuck it out except for the fact that those kinds of errors are creeping their way into more than just the biological sciences. So, although I am no Issac Newton, I got out of there before they completely ruined my bullshit detector and figured my money and time was better spent going full Auto-didacticon and feel safer letting my study skills, experience, and trial and error methods flush themselves out. The only real deficiencies with my method have been the lacking of any good mentorship. You are helping fill that void with knowledge I can't even find in books. Truly.
I'm not sure what your profession is and I have no idea even what BOLTR means, but you clearly have an expert level of knowledge that spans across several domains of engineering from mechanical to metallurgical, along with all of the useful trade knowledge that you could squeeze out of a sack full of journeymen. And that almost makes me wish I had spent my schooling years in Canada. I am fond of Canada and I had always figured and hoped that if good old 'Murica ever went to shit like it is now, at least I would have Canada to fall back on. But that was until I saw your Prime Minister go full Crack Hitler on those truckers that were smart enough to resist the jab and decided to protest about it.
So, I guess this wokenomics plague has spread everywhere, there IS nowhere else to run, and we are all just fucked as long as our women keep spitting out these retarded liberal babies that think that jokes or criticism and truth are violence. So, PLEASE keep the education videos coming that share your 30 years of experience explaining tools and processes and all the knowledge that you cant find about them in a trade school, university or even a service manual, because I am afraid, once you are gone, nobody else will be alive to tell it.
Are we sure the colorful glass ring isn't a teething ring? Love the videos.
Thank you for showing me this years ago!
I can tell that you and I came from the same neighborhood, but then got edubacated.
this video led me down the gullet vs material rabbithole and helped alleviate a massive blindspot in my working knowledge, thank you AvE. once again youve helped me in my battle with my own empire of dirt!
